Zero Emissions Definitions

Here is a set of definitions that relate to zero emissions:

  • Zero Emissions - 1.general phrase used to cover any of the following definitions below (ie Net Zero etc), or 2. Absolute zero emission in a given context. 3. Level of emissions associated with Nuclear power or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) if used by mining/nuclear/coal industry.
  • Net Zero Emissions - reducing your emissions to "net" zero by offsetting. Usually implies a significant effort has been made to reduce emissions but not always (such as offsetting a single plane flight). NOTE: There is debate about which offsets have merit.
  • Near Zero Emissions - close to zero emissions, implying a 95-99.X% reduction on previous standards of emissions.
  • Zero Emissions Minus - reducing emissions to a point where your net emissions are reduced below zero by either natural or human assisted sequestration in a given context.
  • Zero Minus Fast - the goal of achieving zero emission minus as fast as possible in a global or national context.
